Heber Valley 25 Mile Family Ride

Makenzee wanted to do the Heber Valley 25 mile Family Ride this year, so her and I got up almost every morning at 6:30 am to train.

She had a few tears during training, but it was after she had climbed 500 North so it was justified! Anyway, the morning of the big race was 44 degrees, it had warmed up from 37!

We put Kambree and Brynlee in the stroller loaded with blankets, snacks, water and lots of toys!

We took a pre-ride picture before starting the ride at 8:30 am.
The ride started in downtown Heber, near Granny's Famous Shake House. We rode down the main street in Heber, turned off and headed up to the top of Soldier Hollow where the first rest stop was waiting for us. It was a pretty long hill climb but Makenzee did AWESOME! We were a little more than half way up the hill when Makenzee said, "Geez Mom, they're really making me work hard for my snack!" The funniest thing was that we were riding side by side and when she looked over at me to make that comment, she didn't watch where she was going, and drove right off of the road and into the weeds.

We rode back down Soldier Hollow and into Midway.




There was one hill just before we reached the Homestead that was short but steep and when Makenzee saw it she said, "NO WAY" and attempted to jump off of her bike. I told her to stay on and just try it. She made it 3/4 of the way to the top before her little legs stopped pedaling altogether and she had to walk her bike the rest of the way up.

We rode our bikes along Wasatch State Park and the views of the mountains were spectacular. Fall is my favorite time of year and the colors were just amazing.



Brynlee was so good and slept through most of the ride. She only cried one time and that was because Kambree was pulling her ear yelling "baby wake up!"

Kambree also did really well. She colored, read books, ate lots of snacks and spent most of her time looking for horses, cows and birds.

We finished our ride through Midway and came in along Highway 40 (I think) through the back side of Heber. There was a little girl in front of us who was almost 10 and Makenzee started getting a little competitive with her. She kept saying, " Mom lets go faster!" At one point we were riding between 15 and 18 mph until we passed her. Makenzee got a good lead on her and then said, "OK Mom, we can slow down now!"

Here we are about to cross the finish line! I guess Makenzee was just making sure the little girl wasn't going to sneak up behind her and win!

Makenzee crossed the finish line at 2 hours and 54 minutes, woo-woo! Way to go Makenzee, this was a huge accomplishment for you! We are so proud of you and we know that you can do anything you put your mind to!
